Black History Month 2024
Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate, a Future to Build
The CAEP Association of Emergency Physicians is celebrating Black History Month. We are taking this time to recognize the important contributions of Black Canadians to and to acknowledge anti-Black racism as a determinant of health . We encourage all emergency medicine physicians to consider the following 5 actions in recognition of this year’s theme, “Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate, A Future to Build”:
- Review CAEP’s symposium recommendations on addressing racism and colonialism in emergency medicine and visit the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Resource Centre
- Get to know some of the organizations working to advance Black health in Canada including Black Physicians of Canada, Black Medical Students Association of Canada, and the Black Physicians Association of Ontario
- Check out the fantastic videos in the National Film Board’s “Black Communities in Canada” playlist
- Participate in CAEP’s Images in Emergency Medicine Competition to improve the diversity of open access images available for emergency medicine teaching
