In the fall of 2019, the CAEP Board made equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) a top priority for the organization in all of its activities. Since then, progress has been made on a number of fronts including committee work, Board diversification, speaker diversification and the development and work for our 2021 Academic Symposia “Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Emergency Medicine.”
While this is a start, there is more work to be done. We want to let the membership know that the Board has established an EDI Advisory group and has recently participated in an EDI facilitated “workout” to establish tangible, measurable and timely goals for meaningful change in the specialty of emergency medicine. This was prefaced with self-directed EDI training through Stanford University. In the coming weeks, we will be reaching out to the membership to seek consultation and feedback on the proposed goals the Board developed. We hope that you will take part in this important process.
