Research

One of CAEP’s four pillars is to provide a forum for Canadian EM research. Both the Research Committee and Academic Section are committed to fostering and developing EM research across Canada. In 2016 the Network of Canadian Emergency Researchers (NCER) was established, which will enable EM researchers to conduct multi-centre research and education studies, provide mentorship, and ultimately improve patient care for all Canadians.

Research in Action

One of CAEP’s four pillars is to provide a forum for Canadian EM research. Both the Research Committee and Academic Section are committed to fostering and developing EM research across Canada. In 2016 the Network of Canadian Emergency Researchers (NCER) was established, which will enable EM researchers to conduct multi-centre research and education studies, provide mentorship, and ultimately improve patient care for all Canadians.

The CAEP Research Committee supports the development of research skills related to EM across Canada by administering two programs: the annual CAEP Grant Competition and CAEP Abstract Competition.

The CAEP Grant Competition identifies promising research grant proposals from medical students, residents, and faculty and will award ten grants totalling $65,000 for the 2018/19 competition. Many of our past grant winners have continued on with successful research careers.

The CAEP Abstract Competition evaluates hundreds of abstracts submitted from across Canada and internationally to be considered for presentation in the annual CAEP conference.

Submissions are carefully evaluated and scored by at least three highly-qualified reviewers. The Research Committee is reliant on these volunteers and appreciates their substantial contribution to support Canadian EM research.

The EMAF grants have been provided through the generous donations received through the EM Advancement Fund (EMAF). Please consider donating and supporting Canadian EM research.

The third edition will be held at CAEP 2019 in Halifax. This competition allows early-career researchers to compete for an EMAF grant of up to $10, 000 in funding.

NCER is CAEP’s way of promoting the best EM patient care by supporting multicentre trials through collaboration.
