4) What motivated you to become a member of CAEP:

Our group membership is part of a larger recruitment and retention plan that recognizes the growth of our department of CCFP-EM, FRCP-EM, and experienced CCFP emergency physicians into a high efficiency team. It also recognizes the importance of involvement in our profession’s national representative body, opportunities to support ongoing advocacy work, and positions us to better take advantage of CPD opportunities. We’re looking forward to engaging with CAEP more as an entire group!

5) What advice would you give to a new CAEP member?

While a few of us have been involved in committee work and have attended CPD offerings, the bulk of our group are new members and looking to becoming more involved! The opportunity to network with mentors and peers, collaborate on projects and research, and learn from leaders in our field are all opportunities our group is excited to take advantage of.

6) Why did you choose to practice emergency medicine?

Emergency Medicine keeps us all on our toes! Particularly over the last number of exceptionally difficult years, what has kept us afloat is working with a collegial, professional, and supportive team that is constantly looking for ways to improve the safe and efficient care for our community. It has been rewarding to see our group evolve to include physicians with a variety of experience and expertise, including simulation, intensive care, sport medicine, withdrawal management, care of the elderly, and POCUS – all contributing to the quality of care we provide in this dynamic field.

7) Is there anything you want to share that we haven’t included and/or asked about yet?

Shout out to everyone doing their best in these trying circumstances, and to those who are loudly advocating for our profession. In North Bay we are acutely aware of the pressures on our system as we remain significantly short-staffed in the face of increasingly complex patient care, overloaded hospitals, and physician shortages in both our ED and in our primary care community. We are always looking for ways to collaborate with our peers and would welcome networking and learning opportunities – feel free to reach out or come by for a visit
