The Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) is launching its inaugural 2SLGBTQIA+ mentorship program. This program pairs EM-interested medical students, residents, and EM docs to promote mentorship!
Meetings will likely occur mainly via telephone, Zoom/Teams given the ongoing pandemic. From there, there is no specific agenda. The purpose of the program is to create a safe, informal environment where learners can learn about EM from someone further along in the process while gaining insights specifically from within the community or from strong allies.
Some of the things mentor-mentee pairs may discuss are:
- The lifestyle of EM
- The career options available to an emergency physician
- Conducting research in EM
- Comparing and contrasting CCFP EM vs. FRCPC EM
- Helping connect the student with residents/staff where s/he is planning to do an elective
- The specific challenges and experiences of medical trainees within our community
