- Learn about various QI projects and interventions in various Emergency Departments across Canada; including their planning and execution (Medical Expert)
- Critique the successes and challenges of the presented QI projects and how they may apply to your Emergency Department (Medical Expert/Leader)
- Determine how quality improvement projects can be best adapted to your own practice settings (Leader)

Dr. Tahara Bhate

Sachin Trivedi, BSc MD MScHQ FRCPC
Sachin currently works as an Emergency Physician and STARS Transport physician in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He is the chair of CAEP’s Quality Improvement and Patient Safety committee. He is the Area Division Lead for the St. Paul’s Hospital Emergency Department in Saskatoon.

Dr. Elan Ambalavanar

Navid Dehghani MD FRCPC
Dr. Navid Dehghani is a Pediatric Emergency Physician with over 25 years’ experience in acute pediatric care. He is Regional Pediatric Emergency Medicine Lead for Fraser Health and Department Head of Pediatric ER at Surrey Memorial Hospital, and a Clinical Associate Professor at UBC. He helped establish the Royal College–accredited Pediatric Emergency Fellowship and has served as a Royal College examiner. His interests include simulation-based training, pediatric resuscitation, and continuing medical education. Dr. Dehghani has led provincial initiatives such as foreign body ingestion guidelines and Advanced Pediatric Life Support courses, championing equitable, compassionate, evidence-based care across British Columbia.

Katie Gardner, MD, MSc, FRCPC (PEM)
Dr. Katie Gardner is a pediatric emergency physician at IWK Health in Halifax, where she also serves as Associate Chief and Director of Quality Improvement for the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. She is the clinical lead for Choosing Wisely Nova Scotia, championing safer and smarter use of healthcare resources. Katie’s quality improvement work focuses on emergency department flow, promoting resource stewardship, and advancing health care improvements that benefit both patient care and planetary health.

Ms. Melissa Lee

Taylor Lougheed MD, MSc(HQ), CCFP(EM)(SEM), Dip Sport Med
Dr. Taylor Lougheed is an emergency medicine and sport medicine physician in North Bay Ontario where he recently completed his term as Chief of the department. He currently serves as the President of the General Medical Staff at the North Bay Regional Health Centre, and has a keen interest in QI, healthcare access, and system reform. He is also the proud and busy father of three young boys aged 7, 4, and 2.

Taft Micks MD, CCFP(EM), PgDip(Derm)
Dr. Taft Micks is an emergency physician originally from Vaughan, Ontario now living and working in beautiful Brandon, Manitoba. He completed his medical training at the University of Ottawa, family medicine training at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, and emergency medicine fellowship through the University of Manitoba – Brandon Site. Outside of his clinical work he serves as CMO for QDoc Inc. a virtual healthcare platform started in Manitoba in 2021 to ensure equal access to high quality medical care for everyone across the province especially those in rural and remote areas and those without easy access to primary care.

Dr. Fiona Pinto

Haroun Zayed MD, MHA, CCFP-EM
Dr. Haroun Zayed is an Emergency Physician (CCFP-EM) at The Ottawa Hospital and Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa. He holds a Master’s in Health Administration and has a strong interest in process and quality improvement, operational efficiency, data-driven decision making, wellness, and multidisciplinary care. Dr. Zayed has designed and led innovative initiatives including the novel Physician-at-Triage program, co-led the implementation of DAX AI in the emergency department, and serves as Wellness Director for physicians and residents. He also advances initiatives to improve ambulance offload processes, patient flow, and departmental efficiency, supporting system-level improvements in emergency care.
