Management of Bleeding and Tourniquet Use in the Rural ED
Learning Objectives
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Apply a variety of methods to manage significant life-threatening hemorrhage (Professional)
- Describe the contraindications to tourniquet removal (Scholar)
- Manage the complications associated with prolonged tourniquet time and tourniquet-associated reperfusion syndrome (Medical Expert)

Sean Moore MD, FRCPC, ABEM
Dr Sean Moore is an emergency physician from Kenora, Ontario. He is associate professor at NOSM U, Chief of Staff at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, Northern Medical Director at Ornge Transport and Associate Medical Director at CritiCall Ontario. He is currently Chair of the Emergency Medicine Committee at the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada.

David Jerome MD, CCFP
Dr Dave Jerome completed a rural FM residency at NOSM University, and an additional year of EM training at Queen’s University. He currently works as a full-time EM physician based at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC. He is also a full time member of the Canadian Armed Forces. He was the founding-President of the Canadian Association of Wilderness Medicine (CAWM), and he continues to serve on the CAWM Board of Directors. He has presented at numerous national conferences and on the EMCases Podcast on topics related to rural, environmental and wilderness medicine.
