- List 3 techniques to recognize and manage agitated older adults due to delirium and dementia (BPSD) (Medical Expert, Scholar)
- Describe the benefits of delirium screening and management pathways in the ED (Leader, Collaborator, Medical Expert)
- Identify 3 ways to improve care of older adults at risk of agitation in the ED (Leader, Advocate)
Faculty

Brittany Ellis FRCPC, DiMM, MBChB, MSc
Dr. Ellis is the Provincial Lead for Geriatric Emergency Medicine in Saskatchewan where she is involved in research, education, quality improvement and policy development. She works clinically as an Emergency Medicine and Transport physician in Saskatoon. Brittany completed her FRCP in Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa, and her fellowship in Geriatric Emergency Medicine at the University of Toronto. Brittany is deeply committed to advancing emergency care, with a particular focus on improving outcomes for older adults.

Zahra Goodarzi MD, MSc, FRCPC
Dr. Zahra Goodarzi is an academic geriatrician. She is Division Head for Geriatric Medicine, Medical Lead for Specialized Geriatric Services and Transition Services and Program Director for Leaders in Medicine. She is co-lead for the Geriatric Emergency Medicine Team, restraints reduction team for Calgary and the national special interest group.

Linda Liu RN, MN, CPMHN(C), GNC(C)
Linda is currently the Practice Lead for the Senior Emergency Medicine Centre (SEMC) at University Health Network (UHN), Toronto, Canada. She has served as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Medical Psychiatry for many years at Toronto General Hospital, which has fostered her interest in geriatric psychiatry, leading to her transition to the SEMC team last year to focus on building capacity for geriatric nursing competencies in the Emergency Department program. In the coming year, she will support SEMC program development as Toronto Western Hospital will be opening 15 new purpose built senior-friendly exam rooms in Fall 2026 as an expansion to the ED program.

Shan Liu MD, SD
Shan W. Liu, MD, SD is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Geriatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Director at Massachusetts General Hospital. She co-leads the Geriatric Emergency Department Guidelines 2.0 project. She is a board member of the Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation program of ACEP and the International Federation of Emergency Medicine’s Geriatric Emergency Medicine Special Interest Group and a Past President of the SAEM’s Academy for Geriatric Emergency Medicine. Aside from her academic work, she has published pieces in CNN, US News and World Report, and is the author of Masked Hero: How Wu Lien-teh Invented the Mask and Ended an Epidemic — a book about how her great-grandfather invented the forerunner of the N95 Mask (www.maskedherobook.com).
