Atrial Fibrillation and Venous Thromboembolism

Series Overview

This two-part online CPD series will provide an update on the latest guidelines for recent onset Atrial Fibrillation and Flutter (RAFF) and Venous Thromboembolism. The series will be free open access for all medical professionals.

Module one will review the 2014 updated Canadian Cardiovascular Society guidelines, as presented by the only Emergency Medicine Author of the Guidelines, Dr. Ian Stiell.

Module two will use case examples. Dr. Anil Chopra will describe the ED management of RAFF and pulmonary embolism using the newly created tools.

Educational Objectives

After watching this series, viewers will be better able to:

• Risk stratify for safe stroke prevention in the ED for recent onset Atrial Fibrillation based on the 2014 Updated CCS Guidelines;
• Appropriately initiate anticoagulation based on the most current evidence-based guidelines; and
• Apply the latest evidence-based guidelines for the ED management of Venous Thromboembolism.
