Policies / Guidelines

"CAEP will provide leadership in emergency health care with a goal to enhance the health and safety of all Canadians. CAEP will strive to be the organization of most relevance to physicians providing emergency health care."

CAEP has developed policies, position statements, and clinical guidelines that can act as vital tools which members can utilize to further enhance the delivery of emergency medical care in their own institutions. These documents touch on both the clinical and administrative aspects of emergency medicine. Thanks to the participation of its members, CAEP's production of these resources has increased over the years, with the recent additions of Position Statements on Thrombolytic Therapy in Acute Ischemic Stroke and ED Overcrowding being two notable examples.

CAEP looks to progress in the development of these resources. Presently, a CAEP Position Statement on Emergency Physician Staffing and Remuneration is in the works. As well, a working group has been struck to develop recommendations regarding the optimal data set to be collected in any Computerized ED Information Systems (CEDIS).

Many of these documents are developed at the committee level. If you have an interest in volunteering to work on one of CAEP's committees or sections, please contact us at committees@caep.ca
