Welcome to the Residents’ Section!
Message from Resident Chair
Janice Wong, MD Email
Clearly by now you have decided that Emergency Medicine is the exciting and rewarding career you want. Our goal as your executive is to do all we can to help you get through the next few years of your residency and to address your concerns on a national level.
The CAEP Residents’ section was created to give a voice to the future Emergency Medicine physicians on the CAEP board, and to provide a common way to address national resident concerns and issues. The group encompasses residents from both the 3-year CCFP and the 5-year FRCPC program. We also work closely with the Medical Students section in order to provide some guidance and mentorship for anyone with an interest in Emergency Medicine.
So what do we as your Residents’ section do? Well, for starters the Chair of the CAEP Residents Section has a position on the CAEP board and is able to lend the resident voice to any issues that may come up. We are actively involved in coordinating the resident symposium activities at the annual CAEP conference, which will be held in Calgary in June 2009. It’s an amazing day of resident-oriented seminars and a fantastic social way to make connections with other residents across Canada. We are also responsible for the Resident section in the Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine, Canada’s national EM journal. The CAEP residents group also is responsible for awarding Teacher of the Year as well as the EM and FRCPC Resident of the year awards to thank and highlight the future and present stars of Emergency Medicine.
Our executive is also very excited about expanding the utility and features of our webpage throughout the year. In the past few years, exciting and useful features have been added such as a listing of EM Fellowships, Electives and links to other useful sites. Our goal is to make our site your one-stop EM Residency website! How cool is that?
I hope this helps to provide you with an overview of what our group is and what we can do for you. As always, we are your group and are anxious to hear what we can do to better represent you or address your needs.
We look forward to serving you for the coming year and to seeing you in Montreal in 2010.
