Welcome to the Residents’ Section!

Dear Fellow Residents,

My name is David Migneault, PGY2 at the University of British-Columbia and newly elected President of the CAEP Residents’ Section. It is with great pleasure that I would like to introduce your executive. Our new Vice-President is Laurel Murphy, PGY4 at the University of Dalhousie. The new VP Communication and creator of this newsletter is Laurie Robichaud, PGY2 from McGill University. The executive secretary is Patrick Oxciano, PGY3 from the University of British Columbia. Catherine Patocka will continue her work as the resident editor to the CJEM. Finally, Samantha Calder-Sprackman is the new Medical Students’ Section Representative.

The CAEP Residents and Medical Students’ Section is rapidly expanding and now represents a quarter of the CAEP Membership. The CAEP Board of Directors recognizes the precious value of our presence and involvement in the organization.

Between June 2nd and 5th 2012, residents from across the country sat together to discuss their vision of CAEP and their expectations. They formulated clear recommendations. The message was received. It is time to revamp the Residents’ Section, including more benefits to the members, a radical change in the format of the residents’ symposium, more resources targeted to the challenges of a graduating and newly practicing EM physicians and a stronger voice towards the decisions taken by the CAEP Board of Directors.

Great programs already in place will remain. The Residents-Medical Students Mentorship program is an impressive success year after year. An EM Sub-Specialty Database is currently being created. The DefibriLETTER has been read by more residents than ever. The CJEM Residents’ Section is there for you to submit your hard work! Interested in Public Affairs? Read the details on the newly created resident position on the CAEP Public Affair Committee.

We also want to hear from you! Don’t forget to fill out the short survey sent out with this edition of the DefibriLETTER. Also, do you have an idea? Would you like to share some feedback? Please do so today at thedefibriletter@gmail.com.

We hope to see you at CAEP 2013 in Vancouver, British Columbia for a unique and updated experience.

Best Regards,
David Migneault
CAEP Residents’ Section President
