Residents

Welcome to the Residents’ Section!

Dear Colleagues,

Greetings!  I’m proud to report that the resident section of CAEP is the fastest-growing group of CAEP members.  Your commitment to emergency medicine in Canada is highly valued, and our profession is lucky to have such strong support from young physicians.

The CAEP Residents’ section was created to give a voice to future EPs on the CAEP board, and to provide a common way to address national resident concerns and issues.  The group encompasses residents from both the CCFP-EM and the FRCPC training programs.  We have a variety of initiatives that address training, advocacy, mentorship and provide resources for the emergency medicine resident.

Our Emergency Medicine mentorship program for interested medical students and CCFP-EM/FRCPC residents is bigger and better than ever, and we continue to work hard to provide a resident mentor for each medical student who is interested in joining our wonderful profession.

This past year, we’ve also had the opportunity to represent you on the Montreal Task Force, which was convened to examine the routes of training of emergency physicians in Canada.

One of the things that continues to humble me is the fact that you, my friends and colleagues in our beloved specialty, are just awesome.  Getting here wasn’t easy, and making it out is more than an everyday challenge.  The calibre of emergency medicine residents from coast to coast continues to be simply exceptional.  Special congratulations to Dr. Ni Lam (Alberta) on winning the 2011 Resident Leadership Awards which were presented at CAEP 2011 in St. John’s.

Our next AGM is planned during what looks like an exciting resident day for CAEP 2012 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Be in touch - let us know how we can continue to serve you better, and to meet your needs as an EM resident.
