Medical Students

Welcome! Please check out the information we have available and feel free to provide any feedback for how we can serve you better.

What is the CAEP MSS?

The medical student section is currently represented by an annually elected member who sits on the CAEP resident committee. The primary goal is to establish a sustainable structure for our section. In creating such, we hope to better serve you throughout each year. For those of you involved in your school’s EM interest group, we invite you to contact us so that we can establish a network for communication amongst groups across the country. Send us an email with your group leader’s contact information so that we can share ideas and generate a sustainable form of communication.

Goals and Objectives of the CAEP MSS:

  • To provide a forum for national and international networking between medical students interested in EM
  • To represent medical students interested in emergency medicine
  • To provide leadership and advocacy in EM undergraduate medical education
  • To promote and support CAEP Medical Student activities nation wide through regional leadership
  • To initiate projects and/or events that will be of benefit to medical students or patients
  • To collaboratively help to promote interest in EM amongst all medical students regardless of their specialty interest
  • To help provide greater communication between medical students and residents/faculty within EM programs
  • To act as a source of information and a liaison between medical students and EM programs

Accomplishments

We've put together a list of frequently asked questions that pertain to EM residency program applications. EM residents nation-wide were asked to provide answers.

Ambitions

While many are applying to CaRMS it is important to appeal to each school, likewise, however, each school must appeal to the candidates. Therefore we are also hopeful that we will shortly comprise a document with a brief profile on each of the residency programs within Canada, and a FAQ from their respective program directors. We feel that this wealth of information will help students to garner more information about prospective residency programs.

Further to this, we have many other objectives we hope to accomplish this year – all aimed at furthering the cause of medical students interested in emergency medicine.

Please feel free to contact us with any comments, questions or concerns regarding this section. Please do not hesitate to suggest how we could serve you better.

Sincerely,

Shahbaz Syed,
