MSK: Musculoskeletal Injuries in Adults & Children Roadshow

Musculoskeletal injuries are a common and important component in the practice of emergency medicine. The MSK Roadshow will enable physicians to acquire a practical evidence-based approach to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries in adults and children. Hands-on sessions using knee and shoulder injection models to practice appropriate needle placement are included.

By the end of this program, participants should feel comfortable in their ability to assess, diagnose and treat musculoskeletal injuries in adults and children. They will do this by reviewing in depth the practical approaches to common MSK injuries in the ED.

There will be an in depth review of the practical approaches to MSK problems, identifying several specific elements in each that can be used to assess their current practice, and plan changes as necessary.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the MSK Roadshow the learner will be able to:

• Use an organized framework when examining the knee and shoulder joints
• Recognize frequently missed fractures/injuries on radiographs
• Perform drainage/injection of the shoulder and knee
• Manage common dislocations in adults and children
• Guide appropriate investigation of the patient with back pain
• Manage common pediatric musculoskeletal injuries
• Avoid common pitfalls in the management of the hot joint
